RESILIENCE

#TitleTime

The audio component Resilience is an extension of Northbound: Songs of Sovereignty and serves as an interactive element for Nuit Blanche. This curated playlist features chants, prayers, and songs gathered from Indigenous communities around the world. These recordings have been collected as living expressions of sovereignty, resistance, and freedom. Just as the visual artworks in the exhibition create a collective voice through image and material, this playlist creates resonance through sound - affirming that cultural survival is sustained in many forms.

The audio selections move across geographies and traditions: the deep call of the didgeridoo in Aboriginal Australia, the layered harmonies of Inuit throat singing in Nunavut, the steady rhythms of Maasai voices in Kenya, and the spiritual power of Xhosa hymns in South Africa. Alongside them, Gullah Geechee songs from the Southeastern U.S. and Yoruba incantations from Nigeria extend the chorus outward, showing how each community sustains sovereignty in its own way.
